Day 35 – Finding Connection from a Distance

Our mental health can suffer from a lack of connecting with others. During social distancing, as part of preventing the spread of COVID-19, it is important that we still find ways to connect.

I feel fortunate to be a part of the greater running community, and the various ‘families’ of running communities where I feel a sense of belonging. Many of my interactions with my running family already happen virtually. During this time, I’ve made an effort to reach out to connect and interact with the virtual community even more.

I recently joined the Aravaipa Running community. It is a trail race series down in Arizona, it’s where I was fortunate to participate in my first trail race. Aravaipa created an event called The Aravaipa Strong Virtual Race, “a way for the Aravaipa Community around the world to come together as one.” There are events from the 5k to the 50k, but really it’s about getting out and sharing whatever distance you do. I signed up this morning for the half-marathon and I promise to post what day I plan to run my event.

During this time of social distancing find connection to keep a sense of joy in your life. Join me for the Aravaipa Strong Virtual Race from April 17th to 26th. Let’s run ‘together’ and share our results and our joy of running.
